CDM (You3Dit Inc.) - about 1 year ago

250429-CDM: some after thoughts from the original design activity:

  1. Height - I do believe the vertical section is unnecessarily high.  It could be half as high and achieve the same goal.  Really it's the base of the carpet and the carpet itself which is likely only 1/8"-3/16" thick once compressed.
  2. Mechanical securing - we 3D printed an angled tapered flare of sorts to hold the carpet down once it was carefully stretched around that lip.  What would have likely been more secure and more elegant was to have this made in two top hat parts...one side with male threads, the other with female threads.  This way one side could orient the bottom side around the sensor, then the threaded flange could clamp down on the whole setup, mounting flush with the surface of the dash carpet.  Oh well, this is why we always say our first concept is never the best...however, done is better than perfect!!
